Teaching our kids about the actual character of God is vitally important to their well-being. Trust me! I had an extremely poor and obviously inaccurate view of God growing up and into my early 20’s that caused a lot of problems for me.
It’s one thing to not be in great standing with people, even people you really love, but it’s a whole other thing to be on the outs with God…or so you think.
Even if you’re not a Christian hang in there with me. There was a time when I had a hand up to God saying, “Nope. No thanks,” so I get you. People were what ruined my view of God, not Him. Heck, I hadn’t even given Him a chance, but when I did my mind was ba-lown!
Take the time it takes to learn about it yourself and then talk about it with your kids. Be real chill about it. The last thing you want to do is stuff it down their throat. No one likes that. You will get the opposite of what you are hoping for.
I read a lot, or should I say, I listen to a lot of audio books, I have a million stories from clients and friends, that I, of course, change details to protect identity. I’m a deep thinker. I ask a LOT of questions to all types of people. I’m basically a learn-aholic, so I have a lot of material to draw from.
Try to do what makes sense for you to gain material so you can have off the cuff conversations with your kids that are not forced. They really like laid back stuff. They don’t like too much directness, but when they do you can read that in them. They will get direct and then you can follow suit.
Thanks, on behalf of your kids, for having the desire to be a better parent for them 🙂
