What would you give for your kids to have some super valuable life direction as they were leaving high school or college? What if you’re a kid who wants that direction?
We can’t let this chance go by
It is so bittersweet to watch your child graduate! My oldest just graduated a few weeks ago and while the ceremony was super cool, I was shocked that it was over so quickly. No parting words of wisdom. “Just, there ya go! Good luck out there!”
I found my mind just rolling with stories from my own life and those of my clients that are packed full of life lessons sure to be remembered usually by how awful they turned out! LOL Oh, the lessons I could have taught in just 20 minutes!
We as parents really need to rally for a commencement speaker! This is the very last time we have them all sitting right in front of us. It is the last time to have the opportunity for another adult to often pass on hard earned advice we’ve most likely already given them.
If you are a teenager or young adult reading this awaiting graduation from high school or college don’t think you can’t approach the people in charge to ask for a commencement speaker! There is something special about graduating and embarking on a new journey. What better to get your mindset right, to give you a plan than a speaker giving you some on the inside scoop on life?
I really think this is one of the most important things we can do in a kids life to try to right the ship if need be or be the lighthouse for the ones lost at sea. Start talking about it now for next year. Start with the administration, the PTA, the student body president, the honors society…whoever can be instrumental in making this happen.
I just want to throw my hat in the ring and raise my hand and say, “I want to be your next commencement speaker! I want these kids to hear the roar of their loved ones who are rooting for them to succeed, to keep pushing through hard things, to understand success looks different for everyone and is so multifaceted. I want them to remember that sound when these kids are sitting on their bathroom floor years from now crying ready to give up but knowing they have a whole crowd of people waiting the in wings to lend a helping hand whenever they need it and to know they are worth so much more than they believe in their darkest moments.”
You know where to find me…:)
Much love! -Teresa
